The Pioneer DJM-A9 is a high-end 4-channel DJ mixer that offers a wide range of advanced features and capabilities for professional DJs. Compared to its predecessor, the DJM-900NXS2, the DJM-A9 features improved sound quality, enhanced playability, and connectivity, along with a host of new features such as a high-quality A/D converter, improved channel faders and crossfader, 14 different Beat FX effects, an enhanced microphone section with phantom power and 3 mic effects, and dual sets of USB Type-B and Type-C ports for easy changing between DJs or playing back-to-back. The Pioneer DJM-A9 features an ESS Technology 32-bit high-quality A/D converter built into the channel input section, as well as D/A converters of the same type in the master and booth output sections. Additionally, the microphone input and headphone outputs have been fine-tuned and improved with carefully selected new components, ensuring that you’ll sound better than ever when performing on the DJM-A9. The DJM-A9 has received major upgrades to its feel and playability to make it more intuitive and comfortable to use. Some of the improvements include increased spacing around the EQ knobs, slicker channel faders and the MAGVEL FADER crossfader, which allows for smoother mixing and scratching. The Sound Color FX has also been upgraded and now features the world’s first Center Lock feature. This ensures that you won’t accidentally cross over between the hi/low parameters, even when turning the knob quickly. All of these upgrades make the DJM-A9 a more ergonomic and user-friendly mixer, enabling DJs to focus on their performance and creative expression.

The DJM-A9 features an upgraded Beat FX section, which is more instinctive to use thanks to the new color display and redesigned X-Pad. The X-Pad is now arranged horizontally for simple, sideways finger sliding, making it easier to apply and adjust Beat FX during a performance. Additionally, the Beat FX channel selector is now a dedicated button, enabling quicker effect routing. The Multi I/O section has also been upgraded to offer true send capabilities, allowing for more advanced routing of audio signals. In total, there are 14 Beat FX to choose from, including 3 new ones, giving DJs a wide range of creative options to enhance their performances.

The DJM-A9 has an improved microphone section that allows for better vocal sound quality. It features a phantom power supply to the mic input, which is a rare feature on DJ mixers, allowing you to connect a condenser mic directly to the mixer. Additionally, the mixer has three different mic effects and a dedicated reverb to enhance your vocal performance. These features make the DJM-A9 a versatile tool for streaming, MCing, and performing live.

In addition to the dual USB ports, the DJM-A9 also features a Bluetooth/MIDI input, allowing you to wirelessly connect your mobile device and play tracks directly from it. The audio can be routed to any channel on the mixer, giving you the flexibility to incorporate your mobile device seamlessly into your performance. And with the ability to use all of the mixer’s effects, you can easily manipulate the sound of your mobile device’s audio to create unique and exciting performances.

The DJM-A9 is compatible with the forthcoming version of rekordbox, which will be available in March 2023. To use the mixer with Serato DJ Pro, you’ll need to buy a license or subscription for the software and download the latest version here. The mixer supports DVS control via either applications.

The Wi-Fi® connectivity built in to the DJM-A9 is useful for front of house teams, who can use the new Stagehand app to remotely monitor various information from the mixer, and even control selected functions, via an iPad that’s wirelessly connected to the same LAN router as the decks. By keeping an eye on things such as level meters and track information, engineers can adjust sound system settings and troubleshoot without entering the booth or disturbing the DJ.

In addition to the Stagehand app, the DJM-A9 also has a LAN port for wired network connections, and it supports PRO DJ LINK, which allows you to connect up to four CDJ-3000 or CDJ-2000NXS2 players to share one source, browse, and select tracks from any connected player, and synchronize your performances with lighting and video systems that support PRO DJ LINK.
